What is a Medical Spa?

A medical spa or MedSpa is a doctor’s office that offers medical grade cosmetic services in a day spa setting. Sonterra Laser Med Spa operates under the supervision of Sanjiv Kumar, M.D., a licensed Medical Doctor. We also have on location Gloria Rodriguez, our Nurse Practitioner. Sonterra Laser Med Spa patients have the option of getting medical services like BOTOX®, Dermal Fillers, laser hair removal, CoolSculpting, Ultherapy and other medical-grade skin therapies. Our medical professionals are licensed, educated and trained to ensure the highest level of care for each and every patient.

Where are you located?

We are located on Sonterra Blvd between Stone Oak Pkwy and 281, across from the Methodist Stone Oak Hospital in a complex of medical offices. Please see map on Contact page.

Are your phones answered after hours?

Yes. We have an after hour answering service for coverage 24 hours a day. For non-urgent issues, you will receive a call back within 24 hours of our office receiving the message.

What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

Due to the individualized nature of the services that we offer, our spa providers prepare treatment rooms and services in advance for each client. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. A fee of $25 will be charged for appointments not cancelled within this time frame.

Is there a long wait time when I arrive?

Our appointments are scheduled very efficiently to allow more patients the opportunity to get in for their treatment as soon as possible. Therefore, our providers try to maintain a punctual appointment schedule. While unexpected delays can occur, they are rare. Your wait time should be minimal.

If I am late to my appointment, will I be seen?

If you find you will be late for your appointment, it is best to call and check with our Patient Care Coordinators to see if that will impact the next patient’s appointment time. While we do everything we can to accommodate our patients, we cannot take someone else’s scheduled time from them. Our schedule is designed to run smoothly and efficiently for each patient out of respect for your valuable time. Therefore, if you must be late, it is possible that we will need to re-schedule your appointment at a more convenient time for you.

Can My Child accompany me?

Unfortunately because we are a medical office, we cannot have unsupervised children under the age of 12 in the lobby. Children are also not allowed in treatment rooms since we do work with lasers and needles along with other technologies requiring safety precautions.

If I am a new patient, what can I expect when I come in for my first appointment?

As a new patient you will be handed a medical history form in addition to policies and consent forms to fill out. We will make a photocopy of your driver’s license at this time to keep in your medical chart. The treatment you are going to receive will be explained to you in a consultation. The consultation includes possible treatment options and together we will customize a treatment plan specifically for your needs and goals. The Texas Medical Board requires all patients to have a yearly assessment prior to medical grade treatments. Gloria Rodriguez, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC will be performing the patient assessment which will include a medical evaluation, what current medications you are taking and any contraindications to treatments.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a purified protein derived from Botulin Toxin A. Botox® works by preventing the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscle therefore relaxing the facial movements that create facial lines.

Is Botox® safe?

Botox® has over 20 years of success in treating a variety of medical conditions. Its effect is confined to the treatment area. Botox® Cosmetic has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as safe for cosmetic use. For more information please visit: http://www.botoxcosmetic.com

What is Dermal Filler?

Dermal Fillers camouflage wrinkles and folds by adding volume directly into the wrinkle or the area of volume deficiency. Botox® and Dermal Fillers are often used together to achieve the desired results.

How many syringes of filler will I need?

Depending on the area being injected, we recommend one syringe per decade. For example: 30 years old would need approximately 3 syringes (with the exception of lips). This could vary from patient to patient depending on level of correction the patient wishes to achieve.

How long will my injections last?

Botox® 3-6 months
Restylane® 5-7 months
Radiesse® 6-12 months
Juvederm® 6-12 months
Juvederm Voluma® 1-2 years
